High school scoreboard: Buford softball team bounces back

Region 6-AA’s No. 1 ranked Wolves’ softball team came back from a loss Wednesday to defeat Westminster 10-1 in five innings Thursday in Atlanta.

Buford (13-4, 3-0 Region 6-AA) junior pitcher Melissa Dickie (4-1) had three strikeouts with two walks and allowed two hits with one earned run to pick up the win in the circle.

Samantha Ramey led the Wolves at the plate going 3-for-4 with a double, an RBI and a pair of runs scored.

Dickie went 1-for-2 with a triple, three RBI’s and a run scored for Buford and junior Karly Fullem hit a two RBI single in the first inning.

The Wolves play host to Decatur on Saturday for a makeup game at 4:30 p.m. in Buford.

NORTH HALL 15, JOHNSON 0, 3 INNINGS: North Hall senior pitcher Megan Rogers threw eight strikeouts with no hits to shutout Johnson in three innings Thursday in Oakwood.

Amber Youngblood led the Trojans (9-10-1, Region 7-AAA) at the plate going 3-for-4 with a pair of RBIs and two runs scored.

North Hall’s Kelsey Gibbs went 2-for-3 with three RBIs and Madison Savage also went 2-for-3 with a pair of RBIs.

The Trojans return to action playing host to West Hall at 5:55 p.m. Tuesday in Gainesville.

WHITE COUNTY 5, FLOWERY BRANCH 0: Stephanie Satterfield (10-4) pitched a shut out with seven strikeouts to lead the Warriors to a win over the Falcons on Thursday in Flowery Branch.

White County (14-6, 9-2 Region 7-AAA) junior Laura Sangster led at the plate going 2-for-4 with a run scored.

Lindsey Messmore went 2-for-2 with an RBI for the Warriors and freshman Sarabeth Cummins was 2-for-3 on the night with a run scored and an RBI.

White County plays host to Gainesville for a makeup game at 5:55 Monday night in Cleveland.

WEST HALL 7, PICKENS 3: Sophomore Miranda Miller led the Spartans at the plate going 3-for-4 with a pair of RBIs in a West Hall (12-9, 7-2 Region 7-AAA) win over Pickens on Thursday night in Oakwood.

Spartan pitcher Emily Hammond picked up the win in the circle with four strikeouts, but gave up three runs.

West Hall junior Madison Strickland went 2-for-4 with two RBIs, and Hammond went 2-for-4 at the plate with an RBI.

West Hall returns to action in the Milton Invitational against Camden County at 4:30 p.m. in Alpharetta.

JEFFERSON 6, OGLETHORPE 1: Freshman Morgan McKinney went 2-for-4 at the plate with four RBIs and a run scored to lead the Dragons to a win over Oglethorpe County on Thursday in Jefferson.

Dragons’ junior pitcher Kara Perry picked up the win in the circle with five strikeouts, five hits allowed and one run scored.

Jordyn Whitfield went 2-for-3 with two runs scored and an RBI.

Jefferson (6-9, 1-5 Region 8-AA) visits Rabun County at 5:55 p.m. on Wednesday in Tiger.

UNION COUNTY 5, JEFFERSON 1 (WEDNESDAY): Billie Odom struck out five, allowed five hits and one run scored to lead the

Panthers to a win over Jefferson on Wednesday in Blairsville.

Brittney Smith led the Dragons at the plate going 2-for-3 with an RBI.

Panthers’ Kaitlyn Seabolt led at the plate going 2-for-3 with two runs scored, and Whitney Kelley went 2-for-4 with a run scored and two RBIs.

Lakeview plays host, sweeps

Louisa Jacobs had 19 kills, 10 aces and seven digs on the night to lead the Lions to victory over Habersham Central (25-16, 25-14) and Tallulah Falls (25-20, 25-21) on Thursday in Gainesville.

Megan Rochester had nine kills, three aces and two blocks for Lakeview (18-9), Jackie Burleson had 16 assists and A.C. Dover had eight assists and three aces.

The Lions enter post-season play in an Area 8-A/AA tournament on Oct. 8.
