Buford softball improved to 5-0 on Saturday with a pair of wins in the “Rumble at the Ridge” tournament hosted by Peachtree Ridge.
The Lady Wolves were 4-0 in the tournament, topping Class AAAAAAA Newton High, 17-4, in five innings and Class AAAAAA Lanier, 11-0, in six innings in their final two games.
Against Newton, Chandler Wright picked up the complete-game win, her first victory of the season. Wright gave up eight hits and four earned runs with two walks and a strikeout.
Hannah Jo Hyatt was 2 for 3 with 3-RBI triple in the first inning and a solo homer in the second. Hyatt also scored a pair of runs.
Shea Bayreuther was 4 for 4 with a double and three RBIs.
Arielle Oda and Mariah Wicker were each 3 for 3 in the contest. Oda delivered a triple, scored four runs and stole three bases. Wicker scored three, drove in one and stole two bases.
Overall, the Lady Wolves had 17 hits.
In the second game, Ansley Byers picked up her third win of the season and second complete-game win. The win was her first shutout of the year. Byers allowed six hits and two walks with two strikeouts.
Oda had another perfect game at the plate, going 4 for 4 with a double, two RBIs and two runs scored.
Wicker was 3 for 5 with a 2-RBI triple in 6th. Bayreuther contributed two doubles, two RBIs and a run scored in her 2 for 4 performance.
Maddie Marchiando was 4 for 4 with a run scored and a pair of stolen bases.
Overall, the Lady Wolves had 20 hits, good enough for second best in school history behind a 21-hit performance against Stephens County in 2008.
Next up, Buford will host South Forsyth at 5:30 p.m. on Monday.
CHESTATEE TAKES THREE: The Lady War Eagles softball team picked up a trio of wins on Saturday, topping Dawson County, Gainesville and Towns County. Rebecca Eddins picked up the 6-1 win over Dawson County, tossing a complete game, striking out seven and giving up four hits. Dawson County’s lone run was unearned. Cheyenne Roper drove in two runs and scored a pair as well. Hannah Jones also delivered a pair of RBIs.
Elizabeth Eddins pitched a complete-game shutout win over Gainesville in the second game with Chestatee scoring eight in the contest. Elizabeth Eddins was able to drive in two runs and score one. Roper drove in three and scored one. Kala Sargent scored two for the Lady War Eagles. In the game, Chestatee stole seven bases against the Lady Red Elephants.
In the final game of the day, Chestatee defeated Towns County 16-1 in three innings. Rebecca Eddins picked up the win, allowing five hits and one earned run. Elizabeth Eddins was 2 for 3 with two RBIs and two runs scored. Roper scored three runs and drove in one. Sargent and Katilyn Babb each stole two bases.
The East Hall Lady Vikings moved their season record to 8-0 with straight set wins against Meadowcreek (25-15, 25-14), Berkmar (25-5, 25-6), South Gwinnett (25-23, 25-16) and Jackson County (25-19, 25-9) at Discovery High School on Saturday in Lawrenceville.
For the day, Savannah Thellman had 33 points scored on serve with 14 aces, five kills, six digs and 63 assists. Holly Poole had five aces, 10 kills an assist, a block and three digs. Summer Lindsey had three aces, a kill, three assists and 37 digs.
Tessa Rider added 13 aces, 13 kills and 15 digs. Minette Maldonado had three aces, 30 kills and 33 digs. Niyah Rucker had four aces and 36 kills.
