The Buford High softball team shut out Sonoraville 5-0, 9-0 during their first round Class AA state playoff series on Tuesday in Buford. With the win, the Lady Wolves (19-4) play host to the winner of the Heard County-Walnut Grove series in the second round on Friday in Buford.
Aainst Sonoraville, Buford’s Karly Fullem (9-2) pitched a no-hitter and set a new school record with 18 strikeouts in the pitching circle in Game 1.
Whitney Wolfe went 2-for-3 with a double and two runs scored to lead the Lady Wolves at the plate. Buford sophomore Melissa Dickie went 2-for-2 with an RBI and a run scored and Ansley Kozloski went 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored.
Dickie went on to get the win in the circle in game 2 pitching a one-hit shutout with seven strikeouts and a pair of walks. Dickie also added to her cause at the plate going 1-for-3 with a two-run home run in the top of the third.
Senior Alysha Rudnik went 2-for-3 with a two RBIs and two runs scored for Buford, Lexi Overstreet went 1-for-2 with a pair of RBIs and a run scored and Fullem went 2-for-3 with two RBIs.
