High school scoreboard: Buford bombs Lovett

Melissa Dickie (5-1) pitched a no-hitter to lead the top-ranked Buford High softball team to a 9-0 victory against Lovett on Tuesday in Atlanta.

Madison Wynegar went 3-for-3 with four RBIs and a run scored to lead the Wolves (15-4, 5-0 6-AA) at the plate.

Whitney Wolfe went 3-for-3 with a double, a pair of RBIs and two runs scored for the Wolves, Lexi Overstreet went 2-for-3 with a pair of doubles and two runs scored and Samantha Ramey went 2-for-3 with a run scored.

Buford, the region’s top seeded team, gets a bye on Thursday and opens region tournament play Saturday at Greater Atlanta Christian in Norcross.

JEFFERSON 10, RABUN COUNTY 0: Brittney Smith went 2-for-3 and three runs scored to lead the Dragons to the win over Rabun County on Tuesday in Tiger.

Morgan McKinney picked up the win in the pitching circle for Jefferson with six strikeouts.

Jordyn Whitfiled went 3-for-4 with three runs scored for the Dragons with a pair of RBIs, Kasey McDonald went 2-for-3 with two runs scored and three RBIs and Sydney Roberts went 1-for-4 with a pair of RBIs and a run scored.

Jefferson (7-9, 2-5 Area 8B-AA) opens region tournament play on Oct. 13.

Volleyball

North Hall splits at Flowery Branch’s senior night

The Trojans defeated Johnson (23-25, 25-12, 26-24), but lost to Flowery Branch (25-20, 25-16) on Tuesday in Flowery Branch.

Kathryn Bell had 17 assists, four aces, five digs and six kills for North Hall (23-11-2), Lauren Gregory had 12 kills and 12 digs, Lindsey Wright had 4 digs, one kill, a block and an ace for North Hall. Sarah Paschall had four kills and a dig, Ali Souther had seven digs and a kill and Anna Marchman had two kills and a pair of digs for the Lady Trojans.

The Knights’ Mary Fiorentino had 13 kills and 21 digs, Caitlin Sloan had seven kills, Britt Mimbs had 10 assists and Shelley Farley had five digs.

North Hall plays host to West Forsyth at 5 p.m. Tuesday.

Johnson (13-21, 5-6 Region 7-AAA) visits East Hall to play the Vikings and Pickens on Tuesday in Gainesville.

Gainesville wins one, loses one at senior night

The Red Elephants were defeated by Gilmer (25-13, 25-13) and came back to get the win against Chestatee (25-19, 20-25, 25-20) on Tuesday in Gainesville.

Shaye Roper, Daniela Delavega and Somer Graham accumulated 26 digs and 14 assists on the night.

Gainesville visits Buford to play the Wolves and East Hall in a tri-match at 5 p.m. Thursday.
