High school scoreboard: Banks, Redmon lead East Hall softball team in doubleheader sweep
East Hall

Macy Banks tossed a perfect game and Steffanie Redmon followed with a shutout — both in games shortened to four innings — as the East Hall High softball team swept a doubleheader against Rabun County High on Saturday.

The pair did plenty at the plate to support its own cause, as well, combining for five home runs and 13 RBIs across both contests.

Redmon went 2 for 3 with two homers and five RBIs in Game 1, a 12-0 victory for the Lady Vikings. Banks, Carley Cox and Abigail Brown, who had a multi-hit game, also drove in runs for East Hall.

Banks struck out five through her four perfect innings, but she was perhaps more impressive with her offensive performance in Game 2. She went 3 for 3 (two home runs and a double) to produce eight RBIs as the Lady Vikings cruised to a 14-0 win.

Cox slapped a run-scoring double as part of a seven-run second inning for East Hall, which received a multi-hit outing from Banks, Redmon, Cox and Kaitlyn Daniel. Redmon, meanwhile, recorded six strikeouts and allowed just three hits through her four-inning shutout.

The Lady Vikings amassed 19 hits and committed no errors during the doubleheader.

BUFORD SPLITS DOUBLEHEADER: Down to its final out, the Buford High softball team scored three runs for a come-from-behind, 6-5 victory against Lambert High in Game 1 of its Saturday doubleheader at Buford High.

Senior Kelsey Bennett tied with game with a based-loaded single before classmate Hannah Jo Hyatt hit a walk-off single to drive in senior Arielle Oda. Ansley Byers picked up the win, giving up just one run through three innings of relief.

Hyatt was 3 for 4, while Bennett went 2 for 4 with three RBIs and a run scored. Oda and junior Katie Perkins both went 2 for 3 with a double and two runs scored.

The Lady Wolves lost 8-3 against Evans High in Game 2 of the doubleheader, their first defeat of the season.

Kelly Paulson, a junior, went 2 for 2 and drove in a run for Buford (4-1). Bennett, junior Meredith Massy and sophomore Ansleigh Hollifield all collected a hit for the Lady Wolves.

Buford travels Tuesday for a game at South Forsyth High.
