A course record was set by North Hall’s Cody Barger at the Northeast Georgia Cross Country Championships on Saturday at Athens Christian. A senior, Barger turned in a 5K time of 16 minutes to take first place. He broke the record set last year by North Hall graduate Ty McCormack, who ran it in 16:08 last season.

Brandon Lawson (17:38) finished eighth, Luis Gonzalez (17:51) placed ninth and Reese Walker was 11th (18:01). Ashley Lawson took third overall for the Lady Trojans (20:00), which finished second as a team.

Kirsten Niedfeldt was eighth overall (21:14), Victoria Rogers placed ninth (21:19) and Sarah Harper was 14th overall for North Hall.

Softball

LADY WOLVES WIN THREE:
The Buford High softball team won games against West Forsyth, 5-0, St. Pius X, 6-0, and Woodstock, 7-2, on Saturday in the gold medal bracket of the Buford Invitational on Saturday.

Against West Forsyth, Karly Fullem pitched her third shutout of the season with 10 strikeouts and only four hits allowed. Callie Case and Lexi Overstreet each provided two hits for the Lady Wolves.

Melissa Dickie earned the win in Game 2 against St. Pius X with nine strikeouts and only two hits allowed.

Whitney Wolfe had two hits, a double and an RBI for the Lady Wolves (9-1).

Fullem earned the victory against Woodstock with eight strike outs and only two runs allowed. Wolfe had two hits and a double.

Buford faces East Coweta at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday at Georgia Perimeter College.

LADY DRAGONS SILVER DIVISION: Jefferson finished first in the silver division of the Buford Invitational, going 2-2-1 on the day.

The Lady Dragons beat Dunwoody 14-0 with Kara Perry (four innings, three hits, two walks, two strikeouts) earning the win, and Lindsey Miles leading the team with four RBIs. They beat Riverwood 5-0 with Morgan

McKinney (complete game, four hits, four strikeouts, no walks) winning, and Miles leading with two RBIs.

Jefferson tied Providence 0-0 and lost to Buford, 5-1, and Union County, 5-4.

VOLLEYBALL

JEFFERSON WINS THREE:
The Lady Dragons earned wins against Winder-Barrow (25-8, 25-20), West Hall (25-18, 25-17), and Walnut Grove (25-23, 25-12) on Saturday in Jefferson. The only loss for the Lady Dragons was against Class AAAA’s Apalachee (25-23, 25-22).
Cassie Metcalf had 18 aces, 18 kills for the Lady Dragons, and Amanda Daniel added 55 assists, five kills and four aces. Taylor Cramsey had 27 kills and fives aces for the Lady Dragons (12-4). Eden Starnes added 15 kills and an ace, and Brianna Patterson added nine aces for Jefferson.

LADY WOLVES SOLID IN GWINNETT: At Brookwood High’s Aloha Bash, Buford beat South Gwinnett (25-4, 25-5), Mill Creek (25-22, 25-12), Archer (25-8, 25-13) and West Forsyth (28-26, 25-22) before losing to North Gwinnett (25-17, 21-25, 25-14).
Buford’s leaders were Maggie Roper with 31 kills and 23 digs, Denee Badois with 15 kills, 8 aces and 21 digs and Liz Darden with 60 digs.

LAKEVIEW GOES 2-2 AT JEFFERSON: The Lady Lions beat Walnut Grove 25-21, 26-24 and Alaina Plummer had three kills. They beat Winder-Barrow 25-20, 26-24 and Lauren Lewallen had three aces. They lost to Apalachee (25-19, 25-17) and West Hall (25-13, 25-20).
