The Dawson County High boys soccer team lost in the opening round of the Class A/AA state tournament 2-0 on Thursday to No. 1 seed from Area 16 A/AA, Athens Academy, in Watkinsville.

Dawson County was the No. 2 seed from Area 15 AA/A. Both goals for Athens Academy came on penalty kicks.

With the loss, Dawson County’s (11-5, 6-1) season is complete.

BUFORD 8, WESTMINSTER 6: The Wolves won Thursday at Buford City Park to lock up the No. 3 seed in Region 6-AA going into the state tournament.

Cameron Crawford went 2-for-3 with two doubles and two RBIs, Brandon Kinzel went 2-for-2 with two RBIs and Dylan Stowe went 2-for-4 with two RBIs for Buford (18-7, 8-4).

Buford visits Adairsville in the opening round of the Class AA state tournament on May 7 at a time to be determined.

JACKSON COUNTY 16, ARCHER 2: Austin Robinson earned his seventh win on the mound this season in a five-inning game Thursday in Lawrenceville.

Rob Williams went 3-for-4 with two doubles and three runs scored, and Jalen Banks went 2-for-2 with two runs scored for Jackson County. Zach Sticher went 2-for-3 with a double, an RBI and two runs scored and Ken Miller went 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored for the Panthers (13-12, 6-12 Region 8-AAA).

With the win, Jackson County’s season is complete at 13-12 overall and 6-12 in Region 8-AAA.

LAKEVIEW ACADEMY 11, SOCIAL CIRCLE 0: Taylor Simpson threw a five-inning, complete-game shutout with 10 strikeouts for the Lions on Thursday in Social Circle.

Simpson also went 3-for-4 with two RBIs at the plate for Lakeview (17-6, 11-4 Region 8-A).

Ralston Cash went 1-for-3 with a home run and two RBIs for Lakeview, which plays host to Hebron Christian at 4:30 p.m. today.
