Riverside Military boys soccer clinch second in Area 5-A

Victor Salcido came up big for Riverside Military Academy, making two saves in sudden-death penalty kicks in a 2-1(6-5) win against Hebron Christian Academy on Wednesday night to clinch the No. 2 seed in Area 5-A. Ricardo Madero scored off of a penalty kick for Riverside in the first half, after Ryan Marcano was taken down in the penalty box.

After finishing tied 1-1 at the end of regulation and two scoreless overtime periods, the game went into a penalty kick shootout. The Eagles remained tied after the first round of penalties and one round of sudden death penalties.

In the second and final round, Ryan Marcano was able to convert on a penalty and Salcido had a save to seal the win for Riverside.

The Eagles will play May 8 at home in the first round of the state playoffs. The opponent and time for the match is still to be determined.

NEW CREATION CHRISTIAN ACADEMY 3, NORTH GEORGIA CHRISTIAN 2: Kayla Goodson scored both penalty kick goals for the Lady Chargers on Thursday afternoon in McDonough in the first round of the Independent Christian Schools of Georgia-Alabama playoffs.

With the loss, North Georgia’s season is now complete.

Baseball

JACKSON COUNTY 4, BANKS COUNTY 2: Jalen Banks earned the win for the Panthers (16-8, 11-6 Region 8-AA South) allowing just one hit in four innings with four strikeouts. Jesse Tallent got the save for Jackson County, while going 2 for 3 at the plate with a double and one RBI, and Nick Corso added a triple.

The Panthers play today at 6:15 tonight in the region consolation bracket.

FANNIN COUNTY 7, EAST HALL 6: C.J. White had a double for the Vikings on Thursday night in Blue Ridge.
