West Hall boys fall in second round of state

The West Hall boys tennis team lost 3-2 to Oconee County on Friday in the second round of the state tournament in Watkinsville.

No. 2 singles player Connor McFall earned the only singles win for West Hall, which was the No. 2 seed from Region 7-AA.

The doubles team of Nathan Turner and Andrew Johnson also won for West Hall, but the victory was not enough to overcome the No. 1 seed from Region 8-AAA, Oconee County.

With the loss, the Spartans conclude the season with an overall record of 16-6.

Baseball

GAINESVILLE 18, WEST HALL 3: All nine starters had a hit for the Red Elephants in a four-inning game Friday at Ivey-Watson Field.

Sloan Strickland went 1-for-3 with a home run and four RBIs, K.J. McAllister went 2-for-3 with three runs scored and an RBI, Steven Mason went 2-for-2 with three runs scored and Hunter Anglin went 2-for-3 with a home run, two runs scored and three RBIs for Gainesville (21-1, 16-0 Region 7-AAA).

David Gonzalez earned the win on the mound to improve his season record to 6-0.

Gainesville visits Johnson at 5:55 p.m. Monday. West Hall (3-19, 2-14 Region 7-AAA) plays host to West Forsyth at 5:55 p.m. Monday.

FLOWERY BRANCH 5, JOHNSON 3: Jimmy Fitzgerald and Breck Davidson had back-to-back solo home runs in the fourth inning for the Falcons on Friday in Flowery Branch. Andrew Laur and Keltin Devoe each had an RBI for Flowery Branch (5-18, 5-12 Region 7-AAA).

Taylor Whitmire had a double and two RBIs and A.J. Benefield added a double for Johnson.

Fitzgerald went 2-for-3 on the night for Flowery Branch, which visits Lambert at 5:55 p.m. Monday. Johnson plays host to Gainesville at 5:55 p.m. Monday.

WEST FORSYTH 8, EAST HALL 5: Drew Adams went 4-for-4 with three singles and a triple in the Vikings loss Friday at West Forsyth.

With the loss, East Hall falls to 3-21 on the season and 2-15 in Region 7-AAA.

The Vikings play host to Chestatee at 5:55 p.m. Wednesday.
