Riverside Military advances to second round

With straight-set wins at No. 1 and No. 3 singles, the Region 8-AA No.3 seed, Riverside Military Academy tennis team, defeated the No.2 team from Region 5-AA, Pike County, 3-2, Wednesday in the first round of the state tournament at Pike County.

Eric Gfesser and Josh Myers earned the singles victories and the No.2 doubles team of Eric Chow and Austin Johnson won to give the Eagles the win.

Riverside will face the No.1 team from Region 6-AA, Blessed Trinity, at 2:45 p.m. Wednesday in the second round.

WILHOITE SETS SCHOOL DISCUS RECORD (WEDNESDAY):
Peyton Wilhoite set a new North Hall high school discuss record with a throw of 186-feet, 3-inches Wednesday as the Trojans won a tri-meet with Franklin County at Jefferson.

Ty McCormack won the 1,600 and 3,200-meter races, Jordan Chaffin won the 400-meter race and Luis Gonzalez won the 800-meter race for North Hall.

The 4x400-meter relay team also placed first for the Trojans, who finished with a score of 77. Jefferson finished with a score of 57 and returns to action in a tri-meet with Commerce and Jackson County in Jefferson at 4 p.m. Tuesday.

RICH SETS SCHOOL DISCUS RECORD (WEDNESDAY): With a throw of 102-feet, 2-inches, Mallory Rich set a new North Hall high school discuss record Wednesday as the Lady Trojans won a tri-meet with Franklin County at Jefferson.

Jordan Nix won the 100 and 200-meter dash, Victoria Rogers won the 1,600 and 3,200-meter races and Taylor Bishop won the 300-meter hurdles for North Hall to give the Lady Trojans an overall score of 73.50.

Jefferson finished with a score of 69.50 and returns to action in the Region 8-AA tournament at 10 a.m. Saturday at East Jackson.
