Riverside Military took the Region 8-AA boys tennis title with a 3-2 victory over Jefferson thanks to wins from Sipho Khoza at No. 2 singles, Drew Eidson/Joshua Haughton at No. 1 doubles, and D’erron Patterson/Daniel McHerron at No. 2 doubles.
The Eagles enter the Class AA state tournament as the No. 1 seed from the region.
Earlier in the day, Jefferson defeated Rabun County 3-0 to advance to the finals with wins from Gage Thompson, Jackson Howard, and Justin Harrison/Nathaniel Trawick.
Thompson and Howard earned singles wins for the Dragons against Riverside Military.
Both teams will play at home in the opening round of the state tournament next week.
REGION 8-AAAA: Chestatee’s boys and girls tennis teams will enter the state tournament with No. 4 seeds from Region 8-AAAA after losses in the semifinals and consolation finals on Thursday in Danielsville.
The girls fell 3-2 to Lumpkin County in the semifinals with wins from Haley King and Grace Brown at No. 1 doubles and Lily Kiang at No. 1 singles.
Madison County defeated the Lady War Eagles 3-1 in the third-place match with King/Brown earning the lone Chestatee win.
Chestatee’s boys fell 3-0 to Madison County in the semifinals and lost 3-2 to Stephens County in the third place match.
The War Eagles’ wins came from Logan Gruenenfelder/Ethan Kapiloff at No. 2 doubles and Reed Johnson/Austin Passmore at No. 1 doubles.
Both Chestatee teams hit the road to face the region champions from 6-AAAA next week.
LAKEVIEW BOYS 5, TOWNS COUNTY 2: Joseph Britte scored two goals for the Lions on Thursday in Gainesville.
Trystan Regnier added a goal and an assist for Lakeview Academy (7-6, 4-3 Region 8-A), and Chance Calderhead and Cameron Kayne each scored goals. Parker Oliver and Cooper Ambrose had assists.
The Lions play host to George Walton at 6 tonight.
LAKEVIEW ACADEMY BOYS 174, HEBRON CHRISTIAN 183: Gabe McConnell led the Lions with a 39 in the final home match of the season on Thursday at Chicopee Woods.
John Jacobs shot a 40 for Lakeview, which competes in the area tournament on Monday at Jennings Mill Country Club in Athens.
WHITE COUNTY 8, DAWSON COUNTY 0: Spencer Adams struck out 14 and allowed just three hits for the Warriors on Thursday in Cleveland.
Parker Applewhite went 2 for 3 with three RBIs for White County (16-6, 11-6 Region 7-AAA), and Tray Gearin was 2 for 4 with two runs scored and an RBI.
The Warriors visit Fannin County at 5:30 p.m. tonight in Blue Ridge.
JEFFERSON 11, RABUN COUNTY 2 (Wednesday): Max Ford went 2 for 3 with four RBIs and earned the win pitching with nine strikeouts over five innings for the Dragons on Wednesday in Tiger.
Micah Carpenter finished 2 for 4 with three RBIs and two runs scored for the Dragons (19-3), and Hanon Price was 2 for 4 with two runs scored. Taylor Wilkes went 3 for 4 with an RBI and two runs scored.
Jefferson plays host to Oglethorpe County in a doubleheader beginning at noon on Saturday.
