Malquist sets record in track meet

The Gainesville High boys track team won a tri-meet with Buford at Jefferson on Tuesday, 66-60-44.

Polevaulter Paul Malquist, who won the 300-meter intermediate hurdles, recorded the second-highest vault in Georgia history at 16-feet, 9-inches. Blake Sims won the long jump, Chris West won the high jump and Pablo Albero won the 800-meter run for Gainesville.

GAINESVILLE GIRLS 69, JEFFERSON 66: Shelbee Carter won the pole vault and triple jump while Tierra Hill won the high jump for the Lady Red Elephants. Somer Graham won the 200 and 400-meter races and Kwandra Jones won the 100-meter dash.

Baseball

JEFFERSON 9, BANKS COUNTY 1:
Caleb Meek went 1-for-3 with a home run, a run scored and an RBI to lead the Dragons to the win Wednesday at home.

Jake Fields went 2-for-3 with two RBIs, Kyle Hardy went 2-for-3 with two runs scored and an RBI, Drew Carson went 1-for-3 with two runs scored and an RBI and Andrew Bartek went 2-for-4 with two RBIs for Jefferson (16-3, 13-1 Region 8-AA), which plays host to Walnut Grove at 5:30 p.m. April 20.

NORTH HALL 8, WEST HALL 1: Chris Stevens recorded four strikeouts and collected four hits with two runs scored at the plate to lead North Hall to the win Wednesday at West Hall.

Austin Phillips had a solo home run for North Hall (10-9, 7-6 Region 7A-AAA).

Jeffrey Abernathy and Holden Kellar each had two hits for North Hall which travels to White County at 7 p.m. Friday. West Hall (3-15, 2-10 Region 7B-AAA) visits Lambert at 5:55 p.m. Friday.

GAINESVILLE 20, CHESTATEE 5:
Hunter Anglin went 2-for-3 with two home runs, three runs scored and three RBIs to lead the Red Elephants to a four-inning win Wednesday at home.

Ryan Griffith went 2-for-2 with a run scored and two RBIs, Sloan Strickland went 1-for-2 with three RBIs and Will Maddox went 1-for-3 with three runs scored and three RBIs for Gainesville (17-1, 12-0 Region 7B-AAA).

With four stolen bases in the game, the Red Elephants brought their season total to 83, breaking the previous school record of 80.

Dallas Defour and Jimmy Kemp each added a home run for the Red Elephants, who play host to West Forsyth at 7 p.m. Friday.

Chestatee (10-7, 5-7 Region 7A-AAA) visits Gilmer at 5:55 p.m. Friday.

WHITE COUNTY 10, FLOWERY BRANCH 7:
Luke Crumley went 2-for-3 with a home run, a double, four runs scored and RBI and drew three walks to lead the Warriors to a win in nine innings Wednesday at Flowery Branch.

Hayden Cummins went 3-for-5 with three runs scored for White County (14-5, 9-4 Region 7A-AAA). Adam Hooper went 5-for-6 with four RBIs for White County which plays host to North Hall at 5:30 p.m. Friday.

Flowery Branch (2-17, 2-11 Region 7B-AAA) plays host to East Hall at 5:55 p.m. Friday.

WESTMINSTER 4, BUFORD 3:
Woody Ciepiela went 3-for-3 with two doubles and an RBI in the loss Wednesday at Westminster.

Brian Clark went 1-for-3 with an RBI for Buford (13-5, 4-2 Region 6-AA).

Soccer

CHESTATEE GIRLS 0, DAWSON COUNTY 0: Despite outshooting Dawson County 13-6, the Lady War Eagles failed to score a goal on Wednesday in Dawsonville.

Vanessa Chavez had five saves for Chestatee (5-8-2, 2-6 Region 7-AAA).

Alexis Rebollar made a penatly-kick stop just before halftime for Chestatee, which plays host to Lambert at 5:30 p.m. Friday.

BUFORD GIRLS 6, DECATUR 0: Seniors Moriah Mills and Jacey Chandler each scored two goals for the Lady Wolves in the win Wednesday at home.

Alexa Smith and Lindsey White each scored one goal for Buford (9-5, 1-5 6-AA).

White, Jamie Clay and Kennedy Webster each had one assist for the Lady Wolves, who visit Fannin County at 5 p.m. Friday.

JOHNSON BOYS 5, EAST HALL 1 (TUESDAY): Chris Henry scored two goals with an assist in the win on Tuesday at East Hall (5-5, 4-5 Region 7-AAA).

Juan Morfin also scored two goals for Johnson (11-2, 8-1 Region 7-AAA).

Ariel Mejia scored one goal with an assist and Vicente Trujillo and Javier Gonzalez each added an assist for Johnson, which visits Gainesville at 7:30 p.m. Friday.

Golf

GAINESVILLE GIRLS 85, WHITE COUNTY 93: Low-medalist Camryn Cole carded a 39 to lead Gainesville to the win Wednesday at Mossy Creek.

LeeAnn Noble shot a 46 for the Lady Red Elephants.

Scorers for White County were Chelsea Ash (45) and Jodi Samples (48).
