Jacob Evans recorded a double-double, scoring 27 points while grabbing 10 rebounds to lead the Dawson County boys basketball team to a 53-43 win over Union County on Wednesday in Dawsonville.
Stephen Scaife and Tyler Dominy added eight points each for the Tigers (14-3, 1-0 Region 8A-AA), who return to action when they visit Riverside Military Academy at 5:30 p.m. Friday in Gainesville.
Seth Merritt scored 14 points and Trey Thomas scored 10 points to lead the Panthers, who next play host to Rabun County at 8:30 p.m. Friday.
UNION COUNTY GIRLS 51, DAWSON COUNTY 41: Freshman point guard Carly Gilreath scored 11 points and grabbed five rebounds to lead the Lady Tigers in their first sub-region game of the year.
Dawson County (10-5, 0-1 Region 8A-AA) entered halftime with a 23-21 lead, but the Lady Panthers rallied to take a 37-28 lead in the third quarter en route to the win.
Morgan Huber added eight points, two of which were 3-pointers, for the Lady Tigers, who visit Rabun County at 6 p.m. Tuesday.
Union County next plays host to Rabun County at 7 p.m. Friday.
RIVERSIDE MILITARY ACADEMY 54, FANNIN COUNTY 52: Brandon McKinney and Richard Tribble scored 15 points each to lead Riverside on Wednesday in Blue Ridge.
Kane Duncan added 10 for the Eagles, who play host to Dawson County at 5:30 p.m. Friday.
