Hall, Gainesville schools to hold remote learning day Thursday, as Hurricane Zeta bears down on Gulf Coast
The Gainesville City School System will not hold in-person classes on Thursday, Oct. 29, as Hall County prepares strong winds and heavy rain expected from Hurricane Zeta. Class is still in session but will be hosted virtually, the school system says.

High school golf: Dawson County's Caldwell takes second in Class AAA

Dawson County’s Madison Caldwell carded a 76 for second place in the Class AAA girls state tournament on Monday at Waynesboro Country Club in Waynesboro.

Candler Kimsey of White County finished fourth with an 80, and Buford’s Briana Walton scored an 83 for seventh place. West Hall’s Olivia Davis and Buford’s Karley Hammond and Hope Mumme all tied for 11th with scores of 86.

On the boys side at Belle Meade Country Club in Thomson, Garret Rowland of White County was seventh with a 75, and North Hall’s Hunter Young finished 15th with a 77.

CLASS AA: Union County’s Madison Horinek led in the Class AA state tournament with an 11th place finish, carding an 89.

CLASS A: Commerce’s Akyn Trudnak led her team to a state championship as she earned her own championship, finishing first with an 81.

Towns County’s Danielle Diehl was third with an 83, Commerce’s Hannah McRee was fifth with a 94, Towns County’s Mia Manto was ninth with a 101, and teammate Amber Williams was 10th with a 102.

Commerce’s Emmie Burley tied Towns County’s Kenzie Jenkins for 13th place with scores of 107.

For the Class A Private boys, Lakeview Academy’s John Jacobs shot a 77.
