ATLANTA — As teams prepare for the upcoming playoffs, the final regular season poll continues its trend of tweaks with Class AAAA seeing a few top positions change in The Associated Press' final regular-season high school football poll.
No. 2 Sandy Creek and No. 3 Marist each move up a position while No. 4 Tucker, No. 5 Sequoyah and No. 6 Evans all climb two. No. 7 Statesboro's 30-29 overtime loss to Brunswick resulted in a five slot drop but made way for Brunswick to enter the rankings at No. 10. And instead of being tied at No. 10 — like they were last week — Thomas County Central and North Clayton now share No.8. Westside-Macon continues as the unanimous No. 1.
In Class AA, No. 2 Dublin, No. 3 Brooks County, No. 4 Jefferson and No. 5 Charlton County each advance two positions after No. 6 Pepperell dropped four losing by a point to Calhoun. That one point loss also enabled Calhoun to enter the poll at No. 10. Former No. 3 McIntosh County Academy maintains a No. 8 ranking after losing to Charlton County and Fitzgerald exits after losing to unranked Thoamsville. No. 1 Buford stays at the top after receiving all of the first-place votes.
No. 8 Etowah and No. 9 Peachtree Ridge close out the regular season ranked in Class AAAAA after Kell and Harrison lost and exited. No. 7 Stephenson moves up two, No. 6 Walton advances one as No. 10 North Gwinnett falls four after experienceing its second loss of the season. The top five remain unchanged with Lowndes still at No. 1.
Carrollton's second loss have them exiting and allowing Peach County to enter the Class AAA rankings tied with Eastside at No. 10. St. Pius X fell three positions to No. 6 after their only loss, while five others, including Gainesville, notched up one. Cario and Baldwin maintain the top two positions, respectively.
Lastly, No. 9 Miller County enters the Class A rankings tied with Clinch County, down six places after their second loss. Bowdon exits as No. 5 Bremen, No. 6 Savannah Christian Prep, No. 7 Whitefield Academy and No. 8 Athens Academy each advance two slots. No. 3 Lincoln County and No. 4 Brookstone notch up one while No. 1 Emanuel County Institute and No. 2 Wilcox County continue on top.
