Flowery Branch cross country coach Jimmy Sorrells was named Class AAA Boys Coach of the Year by gatfxc.com on Monday.
Sorrells’ boys team won the Class AAA state championship on Nov. 8 with an average time of 16-minutes, 45-seconds. The team had four runners finish in the top 20 in a field of 221 participants. Flowery Branch also won the Region 7-AAA Championship on Oct. 30 at Unicoi State Park.
Chestatee playing host to tournament
The Chestatee High boys and girls basketball teams open are hosting a tip-off tournament on Friday. The tournament features the War Eagles, Brookwood, Milton and St. Pius X.
The Brookwood girls play at Milton 4 p.m., followed by the boys at 5:30 p.m. The Chestatee girls play St. Pius X at 7 p.m., followed by the boys at 8:30 p.m. The winners of Friday’s game will play each other on Saturday, starting a 3 p.m. The losers of each game will do the same.
Glory 1330 to broadcast North Hall-Dunwoody game
WGTJ Glory 1330-AM is broadcasting the Class AAA second-round state playoff game between North Hall and Dunwoody at 7:30 p.m. Friday.
The game will broadcasted online at www.glory1330.com. And re-broadcasted at 10 a.m. Saturday.
Playoff coaches highlight HCS-TV
With football playoffs underway, coaches from area playoff teams will appear on this week’s Hall County Sports Television at 9 tonight, 10 a.m. Saturday and 9 p.m. Sunday on Charter channel 23.
Coaches featured include Gainesville’s Bruce Miller, Riverside Military’s Chris Lancaster, Flowery Branch’s Lee Shaw and North Hall’s Bob Christmas.
The “Game of the Week” is last Friday’s North Hall-Hart County game and it airs at 6 tonight.
