The East Hall boys basketball team outscored Ringgold 30-7 in the third quarter en route to a 62-37 first round playoff win Friday in Ringgold. With the win, the Vikings (20-10) advance to face Columbia (24-5) in the second round on Tuesday in Decatur.

Against Ringgold, the Vikings hit 6-of-9 3-pointers in the third quarter to take control of the game.

“We really wanted to come out and have a good third quarter,” East Hall coach Joe Dix said. “We came out on fire, started hitting shots and the defense really started to play better too.”

J.C. Hampton led East Hall with 19 points and Kevin Blackwell added 12. Charles Perry was also in double figures with 11 points for the Vikings and Chaz Cheeks added seven points and nine rebounds.

“Our kids did an excellent job of executing our game plan,” Dix said.

Dix says that East Hall has a tough challenge in the second round. Columbia has not lost to an in-state opponent this season.

“You could argue that Columbia is the best team in the state over the past 5-7 years,” Dix said.

PACE ACADEMY BOYS 89, LAKEVIEW ACADEMY 67: Daniel Olvera scored 20 points in the Lions’ first-round loss to Pace Academy on Friday in Atlanta.

Commerce moves on to the second round where it will play St. Francis on Tuesday.

CALLAWAY BOYS 59, DAWSON COUNTY 50: Despite a strong 22-point showing from Jacob Evans, the Warriors fell on the road Friday night to the Region 5-AA Champion Cavaliers.

Stephen Scaife and Stephen Johnson both add 10 points for the Tigers (20-9), whose season is now complete.

JEFFERSON BOYS 68, MACHESTER 67: David Watson scored 21 points and J.J. Damons added 18 to lead the Dragons to a first round win Friday in Jefferson.

The Dragons were down by 13 points at the half, but outscored Manchester 42-28 in the second half for the win.
