Lexie Sengkhammee hit five 3-pointers and finished with a game-high 18 points for the Flowery Branch girls in a 59-36 win against Statesboro in the second round of the Class AAAAA state tournament on Wednesday in Statesboro.
With the win, the Lady Falcons return to the state quarterfinals, and will face Carrollton in the third round on Tuesday.
Game time is still to be determined. Taniyah Worth finished with 14 points for Flowery Branch, which will play in the state quarterfinals for the third time in school history.
Julianne Sutton chipped in 10 points for the Lady Falcons.
“I’m very proud of the girls to go in to a very hostile environment and get back to the Elite 8,” Flowery Branch coach Courtney Newton-Gonzalez said. Flowery Branch led 14-7 after the first quarter, and pushed the edge to 33-20 for halftime.
BUFORD GIRLS 76, WARE COUNTY 41: Audrey Weiner scored 15 points for the Lady Wolves and Tory Ozment finished with 13 in the second round of the Class AAAAA state tournament Wednesday at the Buford City Arena.
With the win, Buford will face the winner of today’s Warner Robins/Columbia game.
