High school basketball: Lady Indians cruise past Athens Christian

The Chestatee War Eagles opened the 2008-09 wrestling season with a meet Wednesday against Flowery Branch, Troup County and Winder-Barrow.

The War Eagles were unsuccessful in recording a win, as Chestatee lost 45-33 to Troup County, 39-36 to Flowery Branch, and 39-38 to Winder-Barrow.

Conner Comeaux, Cam Phillips, John Robinson, Andy Etris and Ed Villeda each won by pin against Troup County.

Comeaux, Cody Etris and Blake Forrester won by pin against Flowery Branch. And Zach Chadwick, Comeaux, Villeda and Luis Ojeda each had pins against Winder-Barrow.

Roberto Construdo, Malik Wesley, Taylor Wright and Danny Nguyen eachpicked up wins for Chestatee.
The Banks County boys basketball team defeated Jackson County 62-56 in the championship game of the Jackson County Tip-Off Tournament on Wednesday in Jefferson.

Tevin Daniel led the Leopards (2-0) with 15 points. Bret Armour and Chase Armour each added 11 points. oseph Smith led Jackson County (1-2) with 31 points.

Banks County (2-0) plays host to Lakeview Academy at 7:30 p.m. Monday. Jackson County visits Johnson at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Lumpkin County 61, Athens Christian 48

Led by Cara Malone’s 24 points and Ashley Brown’s 22 points, the Lumpkin County Lady Indians defeated Athens Christian on Tuesday night at the White County Tip-Off Tournament in Cleveland.

The Lady Indians next play West Hall at 6 p.m. Tuesday in Oakwood.
