High school basketball: Finch's 18 points leads Knights to win

Devaris Finch scored a game-high 18 points and Jim Orr grabbed 12 rebounds to lead the Johnson Knights to a 59-48 victory over East Jackson on Tuesday night at the East Jackson tournament in Commerce.

Mick Shannon chipped in six points for the Knights (1-1).

Johnson next plays North Hall at 2:30 p.m. Saturday in Commerce.

East Jackson girls 40, Johnson 34

Autumn Wilbanks and Miki McGinnis each scored nine points to lead East Jackson past Johnson on Tuesday night at the East Jackson tournament in Commerce.

Caitlin Sloan and freshman Harlee Robson each scored eight points to lead Johnson (0-2).

Johnson plays Pace Academy at 10 a.m. Saturday in the consolation bracket of the tournament.

Providence Christian girls 43, Lakeview Academy 41

Despite a 19-point fourth quarter, the Lady Lions were unable to comeback from a 12-point first-half deficit on Tuesday night in Lilburn.

Maddie Haymore led Lakeview Academy (1-1) with 16 points. Brittany Moore chipped in with eight points for the Lady Lions.

Lakeview Academy visits Banks County at 6 p.m. Monday.

Providence Christian boys 63, Lakeview Academy 50

Tyler Ward scored 18 points and Jordan Chastain chipped in with 14 as the Lions fell to Providence Christian Academy on Tuesday night in Lilburn.

Lakeview Academy visits Banks County at 7:30 p.m. Monday.

Jefferson boys 54, Oconee County 43

Greg Hayes scored 11 points and Tyler Bailey chipped in 10 to lead Jefferson past Oconee County on Tuesday in Jefferson.

Darius Minor scored nine points and Chris Beck added six for the Dragons (1-1).

Jefferson will play the winner of the Salem/Eastside game at 2 p.m. Saturday in Jefferson.

Lumpkin County boys 56, Athens Christian 48

Shawn Chapman scored 17 points and was named tournament MVP in Lumpkin County’s win over Athens Christian at the White County Tip-Off tournament in Cleveland.

Taylor Guthrie scored 10 and Chris Guthrie, who was named to the All-Tournament team scored seven for the Indians (2-1).

Lumpkin County visits West Hall at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday.

North Hall boys 59, Pace Academy 58 (Monday)

The North Hall boys basketball team defeated Pace Academy in the East Jackson tournament on Monday, as the Trojans’ Ethan Satterfield sank a 3-pointer as time expired.

Chase Syfan led North Hall with 12 points, followed by Satterfield with 10 and Chris Barnes with nine.

North Hall (1-1) returns to action at 2:30 p.m. Saturday in Commerce against Johnson.
