High school baseball playoffs: Flowery Branch rolls to first-round sweep of Riverwood

The Flowery Branch baseball team swept Riverwood in the first round of the Class 5A playoffs Friday in Atlanta. Flowery Branch opened up the doubleheader by defeating the Raiders 5-3 and went on to win the second game 4-0.

With the win, Flowery Branch will visit Locust Grove in the second round, starting Thursday in Henry County.

NORTH HALL SPLITS WITH PACE ACADEMY: North Hall split its Class 3A first-round doubleheader against Pace Academy on Friday in Atlanta.

A trip to the second round will be on the line when the Trojans face the Knights in a decisive Game 3 at 6 p.m. today in Atlanta. North Hall lost Friday’s first game 7-3 before taking the nightcap 4-1.

Taber Mongero had two RBIs for North Hall in the first game.

Trojans pitcher Reese Olson threw a complete game with five strikeouts in Game 2. John Mark Montgomery totaled two RBIs for the Trojans, while teammate Jackson Latty drove in a run to help keep North Hall’s playoff hopes alive.

WEST HALL SPLITS WITH TROUP: West Hall defeated Troup 4-3 in the second game of Friday night’s Class 4A playoff doubleheader to force a decisive Game 3 at 1 p.m. today in LaGrange.

The Spartans, who can advance to the second round with a win today, lost the first game of the doubleheader 1-0.

JEFFERSON KNOCKED OUT BY HERITAGE: Jefferson lost 11-1 and 18-1 in its first-round doubleheader in the Class 4A playoffs Friday in Ringgold.
