Senior Kiara Woods from Flowery Branch placed third in the 3,200-meter run during the second day of the girls’ state track and field championships Friday at Hugh Mills Stadium in Albany.
Woods ran the race in 11 minutes, 31.91 seconds and earned her team six points. Flowery Branch currently sits in eighth place in Class AAA with eleven points, all earned by Woods.
The Lady Falcons’ Erika Rucker qualified first in the 400-meter dash with a time of 55.80. The 400 final will be today at 1:25 p.m.
SaQuavia Varnum from Commerce placed third in the shot put with a toss of 35 feet, 8 inches to earn her team five points.
Gainesville’s Shelbee Carter recorded a triple jump of 36-feet-2.5 to place fourth and earn the Lady Red Elephants five points.
Maya Dillard ran the 1,600 meter in 5:19.4 to finish in fourth place and earn Buford five points.
The meet will conclude today, beginning at 1 p.m.
