Gainesville's Ralston, Dawson's Caldwell both take 3rd at Georgia Junior Golf Championships

Gainesville High golfer Spencer Ralston shot a 6-under par 210 (69-70-71) over three days to finish third in the Georgia Junior Championship on Wednesday at the Brunswick Country Club in Brunswick.

The rising junior ended up four strokes off tournament winner Charles Huntzinger of Duluth, who finished 10-under par.

With a top-eight finish, Ralston qualifies for the Georgia-South Carolina Junior Challenge Match later this summer.

Ralston, The Times’ 2014 Boys Golfer of the Year, won five tournaments and averaged a score of 70 during his sophomore season.

Gainesville teammate Nathan Williams finished tied for 21st with a 3-over 219.

Dawson County High’s Madison Caldwell shot a 6-over-par 222 (76-75-71) to finish third at the Georgia Girls’ Championship at The Standard Club in Johns Creek.

The rising senior ended up six strokes behind winner Payton Schanen of Milton, who shot an even-par 216.
