Gainesville softball opens season with win over Johnson

The Gainesville High softball team exploded for 10 runs in the bottom of the second inning Monday night in the first game of the season, defeating Johnson 14-2 in three innings at Lanier Point.

Natalie Allen went 2-for-3 on the night with four RBIs and two runs scored to lead the Lady Red Elephants at the plate. Katy Womack collected the win on the mound while going 2-for-3 with three RBIs.

Katie Woods, Melissa Latimer, Rebecca Webster and Abby Cooley each had multiple hits for Gainesville, with Woods going 3-for-3 with two runs score and an RBI. Latimer chipped in with an RBI as well.

Gainesville (1-0, 0-0 Region 8B-AAA) will visit Johnson (0-1, 0-0) today at 5:55 p.m.
