The Gainesville High and Flowery Branch High football programs are both ranked near the top of the Class AAA preseason football poll that was released by the Associated Press on Wednesday.
The Red Elephants open the season ranked second, and 2008 state finalist Flowery Branch is third. Carver-Columbus is ranked in the top spot among Class AAA schools.
In Class AA, the back-to-back state champion Buford starts the season in the top spot. Jefferson is receiving votes among Class AA schools.
The top spot in the other classifications includes Camden County in Class AAAAA, Tucker in Class AAAA and Wesleyan in Class A.
