Football scoreboard: Wolves run over Avondale, 41-0

Eric Barr rushed for three touchdowns as Buford blasted Avondale 41-0 on Friday night in Avondale Estates.

Rick Legrant only carried three times in the game but posted 84 yards for the Wolves (4-1, 2-1 Region 6-AA), including a 47-yard touchdown.

Quarterback Alex Ross was 14-for-16 for Buford with 184 passing yards and hit Andrew Swope for a 9-yard touchdown.

Buford rushed for a total of 222 yards

The Wolves play host to Cross Keys at 7:30 p.m. next Friday at the Tom Riden Stadium in Buford.

COMMERCE 28, ATHENS ACADEMY 7
Senior half back Deon Brock ran the ball 96 yards for a touchdown in the second longest rush in Commerce’s history to lead the Tigers (2-3, 1-0 Region 8-A) to a 28-7 win over Athens Academy on Friday in Commerce.

Brock had 16 carries for a total of 256 yards and three touchdowns on the ground, and three receptions from Tigers’ quarterback Cody Streetman for 42 yards and a touchdown.

Athens Academy was held to 25 total yards gained in the first half of the game, but scored a touchdown late in the fourth.
Commerce visits Athens Academy next Friday at 7:30 p.m. at the Slaughter Field in Athens.

MADISON COUNTY 35, HABERSHAM CENTRAL 6
Fullback Kevin Ellison rushed for a 2-yard touchdown to lead the Raiders in their loss to Madison County on Friday in Mount Airy.

Austin Brown threw 8-for-21 and 55 yards with three interceptions for Habersham Central.

The Raiders play host to Apalachee next Friday.

NORTH GEORGIA CHRISTIAN 40, TWIGGS ACADEMY 20
Joe Boonstra was 10-for-13 with 116 passing yards and three touchdowns, and ran back a pair of interceptions and a punt return for three touchdowns in the Chargers' win over Twiggs Academy on Friday in Jeffersonville.

North Georgia Christian’s Zach Penley had nine receptions for 100 yards and three touchdowns.

The Chargers have a bye week and then visit Faith Christian at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 16 in Griffin.

HART COUNTY 42, JACKSON COUNTY 7
In the second quarter, junior Alex Crawford ran in a 1-yard touchdown to get the Panthers on the board in their loss to Jackson County on Friday in Jefferson.

Crawford went 6-for-15 with a touchdown and 34 passing yards.

Jackson County visits Franklin County at 7:30 p.m. Friday in Carnesville.

UNION COUNTY 28, FANNIN COUNTY 24
Region 8-AA’s No. 5 Union County team defeated Fannin County on Friday at the Mike Colwell Memorial Stadium in Blairsville.

The Panthers (3-3, 2-3 Region 8-AA) have a bye week and then visit Oglethorpe County at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 16 in Lexington. 

EAST JACKSON 21, BANKS COUNTY 6
East Jackson remained undefeated this season with a win over Region 8-AA’s No. 6 ranked Banks County on Friday night in Homer.

The Leopards (2-4, 2-3 Region 8-AA) have a bye week and then visit Jefferson at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 16.

OGLETHORPE COUNTY 21, DAWSON COUNTY 7
Dawson County dropped to eighth place in Region 8-AA after being defeated by Oglethorpe County on Friday at Tiger Stadium in Dawsonville.

The Tigers (1-5, 1-4 8-AA) visit North Oconee at 7:30 p.m. Friday in Bogart.

HEBRON CHRISTIAN 38, TOWNS COUNTY 13
The Indians fell to Hebron Christian on Friday in Dacula.

Towns County (1-5) visit Asheville School (N.C.) at 7:30 p.m. on Friday in Asheville.
