Flowery Branch High senior Kiara Woods placed fourth in the 1,600-meter race Thursday the first day of the girls’ state track and field championships at Hugh Mills Stadium in Albany.
Woods finished with a time of 5:16.45, matching her fourth place finish in the state meet in 2009.
“I felt pretty good the whole time” Woods said. “I gave a good effort.
“I felt it was the most brave I had ever been in a race,” she said. “I just started and went for it.”
With the fourth place finish, Woods earned Flowery Branch five points. The Lady Falcons currently sit in fourth place overall in Class AAA.
Dawson County’s Madalyn Waters placed fourth in the 3,200 with a time of 11:58.49 and earned the Lady Tigers five points.
Dawson County currently sits in fourth place in Class AA going into the second day of the meet.
