The Georgia High School Association announced the 48 winners of the GHSA Cooperative Spirit Sportsmanship Award, which included four area high schools.

Chestatee High was the recipient of the award for Region 8-AAAA and Flowery Branch High earned the honors for Region 8-AAAAA. Lumpkin County High received the award for Region 7-AAA, while Habersham Central High took it for Region 6-AAAAAA.

The award, sponsored by Georgia’s Electric Membership Cooperatives (Georgia’s EMCs), honors schools that demonstrated exemplary sportsmanship during the 2015-16 school year, according to the GHSA release.

“The Georgia High School Association congratulates each of these region winners of the GEMC Cooperative Spirit Sportsmanship Award for 2016,” said Gary Phillips, GHSA Executive Director. “These member schools have been selected by their region’s leadership for their efforts in the ongoing efforts of promotion of good sportsmanship in all GHSA activities and competitions. Good sporting behavior is critical to the development of all young people. It is a cornerstone for productive adult citizens and fans. We thank Georgia’s EMCs for their longtime support of this program.”
