The Buford High softball team defeated Greater Atlanta Christian 2-0 on Friday to advance to the Class AA state championship game at 11:15 a.m. Saturday at the South Commons Softball Complex in Columbus. The Lady Wolves await the winner of GAC/Union County.
Union County defeated North Oconee 2-1 to earn a spot in the semifinal against GAC at 9:15 a.m. Saturday.
Buford(31-4) was led by Melissa Dickie, who threw a complete-game no-hitter with nine strikeouts and one walk. It was the 14th complete game and sixth shutout of the season for Dickie (15-3).
Both of Buford’s runs came in the bottom of the third inning. Kallie Case walked to begin the inning and then stole second base. Lexi Overstreet drove in Case with a triple and then scored on a Karly Fullem double.
Overstreet finished the game 2-for-2, Fullem went 2-for-3 and Case went 1-for-2.
Madyson Wynegar was the only other player for Buford to get a hit; she finished 2-for-3.
