Buford girls fall to Americus-Sumter in Class AAAA semifinals

The Buford girls basketball team fell to Americus-Sumter 51-44 Saturday evening in the Class AAAA state tournament at Fort Valley State University in Fort Valley.

Sophomore point guard Tory Ozment and sophomore shooting guard Audrey Wiener both led the Lady Wolves (25-6) with 11 points each, while junior shooting guard Rachel Dobbs had nine. Junior small forward Marissa Bruce added seven points.

Florida State signee A’tyanna Gaulden scored 20 points for the Panthers, while Jykiera Long and Timia Swanson both added 11 apiece.

Buford won last year’s state championship with a 35-34 victory over Carrollton in Macon.

Americus-Sumter (30-1) will next play Veterans for the state title at 7 p.m. Thursday at the Macon Centerplex.

The Panthers led by six at halftime.
