The Buford High girls basketball team is ranked No. 1 in Class AA in the preseason Prepcountry.com Coaches Poll, released Tuesday.
The Lady Wolves are seeking their third-straight Class AA state championship after defeating Vidalia 50-38 last season to win the title.
East Hall’s girls are ranked No. 4 in the Class AA poll. The Lady Vikings reached the quarterfinals in Class AAA last season and are looking to make a run after moving down a classification.
Chestatee’s girls are ranked No. 7 in Class AAA after going 20-5 in 2009 and winning Region 7-AAA. The Lady War Eagles are in Region 8A-AAA this season, but face much of the same competition they did a year ago.
Gainesville’s girls team is eighth in Class AAA. The Lady Red Elephants reached the second round of the state playoffs last season.
On the boys side, East Hall is No. 4 in Class AA after reaching the second round of the Class AAA state tournament in 2009.
Fresh off of making the semifinals of the Class AA state tournament last season, the Jefferson boys team comes in at No. 5.
Buford finished 9-16 last season, but return all five starters and are ranked eighth in Class AA.
In Class AAA, North Hall is No. 3 after its semifinal run a year ago and Gainesville is No. 6.
The Red Elephants went 14-10 in 2009 and failed to make the state playoffs.
