Chestatee coach Stan Luttrell talks about his team's loss

Class AA’s top-ranked Buford improved to (7-0) on Friday by defeating Holy Innocents’ 55-14 at Tom Riden Stadium.

The Wolves are undefeated with only three games left in the regular season. Still, Coach Jess Simpson sees room for improvement.

"We need to work on defending the halfback pass," Simpson said. "It certainly wasn’t a perfect night. We’ve still got stuff to work on."

The Golden Bears (4-2) started the game with 56-yard halfback pass that led to a 14-yard touchdown run from running back Rob Aitkens to put the Bears up 7-0.

Buford senior running back Demetris Murray countered with a 2-yard touchdown run to tie the game. On their next possession, the Wolves’ Kody Case scored on a 34-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Twoey Hosch that put the Wolves up 14-7.

In the second quarter, the Wolves held the Bears scoreless while scoring two rushing touchdowns. Running back Demetris Murray rushed for a 29-yard touchdown and fellow running back Tyler King scored on a 4-yard run. That put the Wolves up 28-7 at halftime. After the half, the Wolves started strong with a 50-yard kickoff return from running back Cody Getz. Getz went on to end the drive with a 48-yard touchdown run.

Later in the third quarter, Buford wideout Melvin Harris scored on a 6-yard reception from Hosch. At the end of the third quarter, the Wolves led 55-7.

The fourth quarter would have been scoreless were it not for a 86-yard halfback pass from wideout Andrew McGonnigle to Darrin McElroy for the visitors.

Buford visits the Walker School at 7:30 p.m. Friday.
