The fourth-seeded Gainesville High boys tennis team defeated No. 1 seed out of Region 7A-AAA, North Hall, 3-2 in the quarterfinals of the Region 7-AAA tournament on Wednesday at Alberta Banks Park.
The second-seed from Region 7B-AAA, West Hall, defeated Johnson 3-0 in the semifinals to set up a semifinal match against Gainesville at 11:30 a.m. today at the Bobby Bailey Tennis Center.
Although West Hall defeated Gainesville twice this season, Spartans coach John McFall is not assuming anything.
“We’ve beaten them twice, but both matches were pretty close,” he said. “It’s hard to beat a team three times.”
In another quarterfinal match, Chestatee lost to Lambert, 3-0.
In second-round matches earlier Wednesday, Gainesville defeated White Count, Johnson defeated Lumpkin County, and Chestatee defeated Flowery Branch.
