West Hall softball player Hannah Jarrells realizes that her playing days with the Lady Spartans are quickly coming to an end.

And with that, Jarrells hopes to leave the West Hall softball program with another region title.

The senior center fielder/pitcher won her first Region 7-AAA title as a sophomore in 2006. Last year as a junior, Jarrells helped guide the Lady Spartans to a second-place finish.

This year, Jarrells feels her team is better prepared than ever before.

"It would be great to win another region title," Jarrells said. "I know this year’s team has the capability to do so, and anything less than a top-four finish and a berth in the state sectionals would dissapoint me."

Last Tuesday, Jarrells finished 2-for-4 with an RBI in West Hall’s 7-1 win against Johnson. She also earned her third win of year in the pitcher’s circle, striking out two batters. In Thursday’s 5-0 win against West Forsyth, Jarrells led the Lady Spartans with a 3-for-4 performance at the plate, including a double in the sixth inning that helped secure the win.

"I tried to work harder on doing my job as the leadoff hitter," Jarrells said. "We needed those two wins last week, and I just wanted to help my team out as best as I could."

According to Jarrells, West Hall has a special edge that other teams don’t.

"It’s pretty neat because we are all close friends outside of the softball field," Jarrells said. "From going to football games together, to eating dinner as a team and watching movies with one another. We just always spend time with each other and it’s cool that we are a close-knit group of girls."

With the region tournament beginning today, Jarrells knows that from this point forward, there won’t be any easy wins.

"All the millions of fly balls that I caught over the years, and all the millions of swings I have taken throughout my life just really makes this time of year worth it," Jarrells said. "All that hard work I have endured over the years pays off when it’s this time of year. It all comes down to this region tournament and I know that the West Hall softball team is prepared to make some noise in (Class) AAA."
