Jackson County’s Ana Rodriguez hit a pair of late free throws to ensure its 34-32 win against first-year, cross-county rival East Jackson on Saturday night in Jefferson.

After Rogriguez’s free throws, East Jackson had one final shot that came up short. Alyssa Esco, a senior, led the Lady Panthers with 16 points.

This marks Jackson County’s (6-3, 2-2 Region 8-AAAA) second win this season against East Jackson.

Marley Pullian was East Jackson’s leading scorer with 13.

Jackson County visits West Hall at 6 p.m. on Tuesday night in Oakwood.

Dawson County boys 71, Commerce 41

Robert O’Quinn, a senior, scored a career-high 34 points with nine 3-pointers for Dawson County (4-5, 0-1 Region 8-AA) on Saturday night in Dawsonville.

Zack Cook added 14 points for Dawson County.

The Tigers took control of the game early with a 22-8 lead after the first period, and extended their lead to 46-17 by halftime.

Cameron Billing scored 11 for Commerce.

Dawson County plays host to Providence Christian at 8:30 p.m. on Tuesday.

Banks County girls 37, Prince Avenue 25
Andrea Hunter scored 12 points to lead Banks County to victory Saturday night in Athens. Samm Kennedy added eight points for the Leopards (3-3, 0-1 Region 8-AA).

Banks County plays host to Athens Christian at 6 p.m. on Tuesday.

Wrestling
Wirsing wins for Knights in Big Red Rumble
Johnson High senior wrestler Joey Wirsing (171 pounds) finished first in the Big Red Rumble on Saturday night at Gainesville High. Wirsing advanced to the finals with a pair of pins.

He won in the finals against White County for the championship.

Wirsing finished in fourth place last weekend in the Alpharetta Raider Rumble.
