The Gainesville High volleyball team finished third in the 8-6A tournament on Saturday in Gainesville.
The Lady Red Elephants outlasted Dacula, 2-1 (25-13, 17-25, 25-18) before falling to Apalachee in straight sets (17-25, 15-25) on Saturday. Gainesville still earned a No. 3 seed for the Class 6A tournament beginning next Saturday.
The Lady Red Elephants opened play on Thursday with a 2-0 win over Dacula (25-20, 25-16), though lost 2-0 to Winder-Barrow (27-29, 21-25). Gainesville outlasted Habersham Central with a 2-1 — 26-24, 24-26, 25-17 — win in the loser’s bracket.
For the tournament, Ansley Turner (52 digs, six aces) led the Gainesville attack with 43 kills, followed by Lauren Ware with 25 kills and Kendal Glasper (five blocks) with nine. Camille Calkins (five aces, eight kills, seven blocks), Camille Holcomb (52 assists, 18 digs),
Isabella Appling (76 digs, five kills), Karlea Grace Langford (36 digs), Lauren Teasley (eight kills, nine blocks) and Olivia Getty’s (eight kills, seven blocks, 11 digs) were others to produce while keeping rallies alive on defense
The Lady Red Elephants will travel to Douglasville next Saturday, when they face No. 2 seed Douglas County in the first round of the state playoffs at a time to be determined.
