Sadie Thrailkill fired a team-high 10 kills and Madison Dowdy added another nine as the Lakeview Academy volleyball team rattled off a straight-set — 25-11, 25-20, 25-17 — victory over Tallulah Falls in the Area 8-A/AA Private Championship on Saturday in Athens.

After receiving a first-round bye, the top-seeded Lady Lions went on to claim the area tournament and the top playoff seed by defeating Prince Avenue Christian 2-0 (25-17, 25-9) in a best-of-three semifinal before taking the best-of-five final against Tallulah Falls.

“They played as well as they ever had,” Lakeview Academy coach Clyde Wylie said of his team’s performance. “The girls just dominated.”

Coach Wylie also was pleased with the Lady Lions’ efficient service game, which got three aces apiece from Thrailkill and Anna Wylie (six kills, four blocks) along the back line to boost Lakeview Academy to victory in the championship match. Linda Geib too helped on defense with a pair of blocks against Tallulah Falls.

Wylie was named the Area 8-A/AA Private Player of the Year on top of earning All-tourney honors beside tournament MVP Thrailkill (first-team All 8-A/AA), who had 21 kills for the tournament. Dowdy was another to rack up a pair of honors as she was named to the All-tournament team and was named first-team All Area 8-A/AA. While Maddy Towles and Maddy Child both were Honorable Mentions.

Lakeview Academy (39-11) holds home-court advantage for the early stages of the Class A Private tournament, which will commence next Saturday, Oct. 20, in Gainesville.
