High school volleyball: East Hall sweeps against Cherokee Bluff, Pickens

East Hall swept a tri-match against Pickens (25-13,25-17) and Cherokee Bluff (16-25,25-22,25-19) on Tuesday. Lakeria Whelchel had 16 kills, two aces, four digs, three blocks and an assist for East Hall (23-5, 2-1 Region 7-3A). Janelly Lara racked up 15 kills, three assists, 26 digs and an ace for the Lady Vikings. Savannah Thellman finished the night with 40 assists, 16 digs, four kills and two aces for East Hall.

East Hall hosts Union County and Lanier Christian Academy at 5 p.m. Thursday in Gainesville.

BUFORD WINS TRI-MATCH: Buford picked up two region wins against Walnut Grove (25-14, 25-18) and Johnson (25-15, 25-11). Mikayla Hayden led the attack for the Lady Wolves (14-6, 3-0 Region 8-5A) with 15 kills. Julieanne Saliba contributed 12 digs for the Buford defense, while Gabbie Hogle contributed 19 assists.

Buford hosts St. Pius ay 5:30 p.m. on Thursday.

FLOWERY BRANCH TOPS JEFFERSON: Flowery Branch defeated Jefferson (25-13, 25-16, 26-28, 25-12) Tuesday night in Flowery Branch. Katie Williams racked up 20 kills for the Lady Falcons (14-7). Oriah Ware contributed 38 assists for Flowery Branch, while teammate Pheobe Hammond had six aces. Sierra Lutz finished the night with 6.5 blocks for the Lady Falcons.

Flowery Branch visits Lumpkin County on Thursday in Dahlonega.

CHESTATEE SPLITS: Chestatee dropped a match to Blessed Trinity (25-8, 25-9) and defeated Denmark (25-19, 25-17) in Region 7-4A play. Nicole Sedwick and Lindsey Bornhorst had two kills against the Lady Titans. Maggie McNair and Chloe Riley both contributed six digs against Blessed Trinity. Sophie Davis racked up 11 digs against the Lady Danes while Sedwick had seven digs. Sedwick also had five kills along with Logan Wiggins. Bornhorst finished with three kills against Denmark. Chestatee moves to 6-17, 1-4 in Region 7-4A.

Chestatee plays Habersham Central and Forsyth Central at 5 p.m. Thursday in Gainesville.

GAINESVILLE SPLITS: Gainesville lost to Apalachee (25-14, 25-18) and defeated Dacula (23-25, 25-11, 25-20) in Region 8-6A play. Ansley Turner led with three aces, 13 kills, and 19 digs for Gainesvile (11-16, 3-3 Region 8-6A). Isabella Appling had five aces with 33 digs for the Lady Red Elephants, while teammate Camille Calkins added three kills and five blocks. Camille Holcomb contributed 14 assists and had eight digs for Gainesville. Lauren Ware finished the night with three kills and 14 digs for the Lady Red Elephants. Lauren Teasley had seven blocks for the Gainesville defense, while teammate Olivia Gettys had six blocks. Anna Grace Worley had an ace with five digs for the Lady Red Elephants while teammate Isabella Garrish added an ace, nine assists and eight digs.

Gainesville hosts Dawson County at 6 p.m. on Thursday for senior night in Gainesville.
