The Buford softball team is headed to the second round of the Class 5A state playoffs after defeating Southwest Dekalb 15-3 in Game 1 and 19-0 in Game 2 on Friday in Buford.
With the sweep, the Lady Wolves (15-10) will visit Woodland at a time and date to be determined in the second round. In Game 1, Ansleigh Hollifield had a two-run home run for Buford.
Mariah Wicker also blasted a home run for the Lady Wolves, while teammates Hannah Morgan and Abbi Perkins each contributed two RBIs.
Amelia Veal was the winning pitcher for the Lady Wolves with two strikeouts in four innings.
In Game 2, Emi Hall, who was called up from junior varsity for Buford, made the most of her opportunity in her first at bat, hitting a three-run homer in her varsity debut. Morgan also added a two run home run for Buford, while teammate Anabel Adams drove in three runs. Shea Bayreuther had two RBIs for Buford.
Hollifield was the winning pitcher in Game 2 with four strikeouts in three innings.
