The Gainesville boys soccer team continued its march through the Class 6A playoffs with a 2-1 win over defending state champion Chattahoochee in Thursday night’s second-round match at City Park Stadium.

With the win, the Red Elephants advance to take on Richmond Hill in the Class 6A quarterfinals, a rematch of last year’s quarterfinals contest that Gainesville won 5-1.

Seniors Pedro Santos and Armando Hernandez were the goal scorers for the Red Elephants.

JEFFERSON 1, EAST HALL 0 (PKs): The Vikings fell in penalty kicks after playing to a 0-0 draw in regulation. After saving every East Hall penalty kick attempt that was put on frame, the Jefferson goalkeeper also scored the winning kick that helped the Dragons edge the Vikings to advance to the Class 3A state quarterfinals.

OCONEE COUNTY 2, CHESTATEE 1: The War Eagles scored the first goal of the game off a corner kick, but Oconee County responded with a pair of goals to claim the victory.
