Georgia Tech is reviewing the status of suspended basketball player Glen Rice Jr. after he and a graduate student manager were charged in a shooting incident outside an Atlanta nightclub shortly before the Atlantic Coast Conference tournament.

Coach Brian Gregory announced Monday that the manager, London Warren, is no longer with the program.

Rice, a 6-foot-5 junior guard and son of the former NBA star, had already been suspended from the team last month for an unspecified violation of team rules, and this latest trouble clearly leaves him on shaky status with a rebuilding program that struggled to an 11-20 record.

Gregory said neither Warren nor Rice was with the team when it lost to Miami 54-36 in the opening round of the tournament - Georgia Tech's lowest-scoring game since 1961.

"Glen was suspended from team activities on February 17 and was serving that suspension when this incident occurred," the first-year coach said in a statement. "We will review his status in our program in the near future."
Warren wasn't on the bench for the tournament game.

"He has since been relieved of his duties and is no longer with the Georgia Tech program," Gregory said.

According to an Atlanta police report, an officer received a call early last Thursday of a shot being fired near a nightclub.

The officer said he pulled over a Cadillac Escalade and recovered two handguns from inside the vehicle. No one was injured.

Warren was charged with DUI, while Rice was charged with permitting unlawful operation.

"As I conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle, the driver London was slow at responding to my commands," the report said. "London had glossy eyes and the odor of an alcoholic beverage on his breath. When I asked him to stand, he was unable to stand and swayed back and forth."

Another passenger, Steven Pryor, was charged with discharging a firearm while under the influence.

He claimed the gun went off accidentally while he was trying to remove it from between two seats, police said. He did have a firearms license.

Officers returned to the scene of the shooting to check for any victims or property damage.

None was found.

Rice was Georgia Tech's leading scorer (13 points a game) and rebounder (6.7) this season, but his career has been plagued by disciplinary problems.

He was benched at the end of last season by former coach Paul Hewitt and suspended for the first three games this season by Gregory.
