Former local standout helps lead Jackets to win

The No. 8 Georgia Tech baseball team edged Georgia Southern 5-3 on Wednesday at J.I. Clements Stadium in Statesboro.

Matt Skole drove in the three runs on a pair of extra-base hits for the Yellow Jackets, one of which was a two-run home run in the top of the third inning.

Luke Murton had three hits for Georgia Tech (4-1). Jason Haniger and Derek Dietrich each had two.

Kevin Jacob picked up the win for the Yellow Jackets, pitching 6.2 innings with four stikeouts and three earned runs in his first career start.

North Hall grad Zach Brewster came in for relief for Jacob in the seventh inning, forcing a fly out with two outs.

Georgia Tech plays host to Rutgers at 4 p.m. Friday, 2 p.m. Saturday and 1 p.m. Sunday at Russ Chandler Stadium in Atlanta.
