Shaw earns SEC offensive award

University of South Carolina quarterback Connor Shaw, a Flowery Branch High graduate, was named the Southeastern Conference Co-Offensive Player of the Week for his performance in the Gamecock’s 34-13 victory over Clemson.

Shaw, a 6-1, 204-pound sophomore, completed 14 of 20 passes for 210 yards and three touchdowns, and rushed for a career-best 107 yards on 19 carries and another touchdown.

University of Georgia sophomore defensive end Garrison Smith was named SEC Co-Defensive Lineman of the Week following his performance in the 31-17 road win over No. 25 Georgia Tech.

Smith, a 6-3, 294-pounder from Atlanta, came off the bench on the second play of the game and finished with a career-high seven tackles, including 1 1/2 tackles for a loss, to help limit the Yellow Jackets to their second lowest point total all season.
