Poythress, Massanari earn another honor

ATHENS -- Georgia junior first baseman Rich Poythress and senior catcher/designated hitter Bryce Massanari were named to the 2009 All Ping!Baseball Team on Friday. Poythress was named to the second team while Massanari was named honorable mention as a catcher.

Poythress hit .376 with 25 home runs and a single season school record 86 RBIs this season. He became the first player in Georgia history to have two 70-RBI seasons and the second player in program history to have two three-home run games after launching three homers in the Bulldogs' 24-8 win over Ohio State in the Tallahassee Regional. 

Poythress is second on Georgia's career RBI list with 185 and fifth on the career home runs list with 43. He was also named a Louisville Slugger All-American.

Massanari, a second team All-SEC selection, batted .305 with 19 home runs and 57 RBI. He hit 13 of his 19 home runs in SEC games, tied for second most in the league. Massanari led the team with 24 two-out RBI and ended the regular season ranked in the top 10 in the league in home runs, RBI, slugging percentage and total bases.

Poythress and Massanari helped Georgia to a 38-24 record in 2009 and the program's first No. 1 ranking in the regular season.
