Georgia beats Oklahoma State in national quarterfinals

TOLEDO, Ohio — Eighth-seeded Georgia has stunned Oklahoma State 3-2 in the quarterfinals of the NCAA's new match-play format for determining a team champion.

The Bulldogs had finished 20 strokes behind the No. 1 seed Cowboys in medal play.

The match came down to the No. 1 players for each team, with Brian Harman defeating Rickie Fowler 1-up by overcoming a 1-down deficit over the last two holes. Harman birdied the final three holes, hitting a 41/2-foot putt on the 18th green to take the point.

In other quarterfinal matches, No. 4 Arkansas beat No. 5 Washington 3-2; No. 7 Texas A&M beat No. 2 Arizona State 3-1-1; and No. 6 Michigan beat No. 3 Southern California 3-2.

The semifinals were scheduled for later Friday.
