ATHENS — Gerald Robinson Jr., who averaged almost 18 points per game last season at Tennessee State, is transferring to Georgia.

Georgia coach Mark Fox said Robinson has been granted his release from his scholarship at Tennessee State and has signed with the Bulldogs. Robinson, a guard, must sit out the 2009-10 season and then will have two years eligibility at Georgia.

Robinson (6-0, 165) averaged 17.8 points per game last season to rank fifth in the Ohio Valley Conference. He also ranked among the conference leaders in assists and steals.

Fox said Wednesday that Robinson, a native of Nashville, has "proven ability" and "will be a valuable addition to our team."

Robinson's father, Gerald Sr., coaches the tennis teams at Tennessee State.
