University of Georgia outside linebacker Justin Houston has been named the Southeastern Conference Defensive Player of the Week, according to a league announcement Monday.
The junior had five tackles, including two sacks and three tackles for loss, in the Bulldogs’ 44-31 win over Kentucky on Saturday.
Houston also recovered a fumble, recorded seven quarterback hurries and had one pass break-up. Third on Georgia’s defense with 40 tackles this season, Houston remains the SEC leader in sacks (8 1/2) and is second in the league with 14 tackles for loss.
Georgia (4-4, 3-3 SEC) will face Florida (4-3, 2-3) at 3:30 p.m. Saturday in Jacksonville. The game will be televised by CBS.
