The Gwinnett Braves survived a two-run rally in the top of the ninth to defeat the Lehigh Valley IronPigs 7-5 on Friday at Gwinnett Stadium.
Gwinnett’s win streak now stands at a season-long seven games.
G-Braves outfielder Brian Barton’s three-run homer in the sixth inning proved to be the difference in the game. With Barbaro Canizares on first and J.C. Holt on second, Barton blasted one to right-center field on an 0-2 pitch, giving Gwinnett a 6-2 lead at that point.
Barton finished the game 1-for-3 at the plate.
With Durham’s 4-2 win over Norfolk, the G-Braves move atop the International League Wild Card standings in a tie with the Tides.
Gwinnett will face Lehigh Valley in game two of the four-game set at 7 tonight at Gwinnett Stadium.
