Mitch Jones hit his second home run in as many days and the Gwinnett Braves defeated the Norfolk Tides 5-1 on Friday at Coolray Field.

Designated hitter Barbaro Canizares hit his first home run of the season, a three-run home run to center field.

This is the G-Braves’ second series win of the season. Gwinnett (11-12) sits in second place in the International League South and is four games behind Durham for first place. Norfolk (9-14) falls into a last place tie with Charlotte.

With the G-Braves ahead 2-1 in the bottom of the eighth inning, Canizares hit a home run that scored third baseman Wes Timmons and first baseman Freddie Freeman. It pushed the score to 5-1 and no Tides player was able to get a hit for the rest of the game.

Gwinnett plays host to the Pawtucket Red Sox in the first game of a four-game series tomorrow at 7:05 p.m. at Coolray Field.
