G-Braves fall to Toledo

The Toledo Mud Hens defeated the Gwinnett Braves 3-2 on Friday night at Fifth Third Field in Toledo, OH. The G-Braves fall to 63-50 while the Mud Hens improve to 56-57 on the season.

The Mud Hens scored twice in the bottom of the eighth inning to win its second-straight against the G-Braves. Gwinnett held a 2-1 lead heading into the bottom of eighth inning when Toledo took advantage of a throwing error from G-Braves third baseman Van Pope. The errant throw allowed Scott Sizemore to score, tying the game at 2-2.

The next batter, Brent Dlugach, also took advantage of the extra out by hitting a sacrifice fly to right field that scored Mike Hessman and gave the Mud Hens the 3-2 advantage.

Hessman got the MudHens on the board in the sixth inning with his 15th home run of the season. The solo shot tied the game at one.

Gwinnett starter Jo-Jo Reyes allowed just one earned run in five innings. Reyes was eligible for the win but ended up with a no-decision and remains at 2-1 but with a lower 3.03 ERA.

G-Braves reliever Mariano Gomez, who allowed the go-ahead run to reach base, was charged with his fourth loss of the season. Gomez is now 7-4 with a 1.97 ERA. Luis Valdez, who allowed an inherited runner to score, was charged with his seventh blown save of the season.
